A towering 6'5", Phil McDermott has had a varied career, including a stint in the Royal Navy. He left when he was threatened with being dispatched to a submarine - conditions might have been a little cramped for a man of his proportions. Another Shivilenco 'non-actor', then? Not quite, because during a brief stay in London in the late 1990s, Phil took to the stage after becoming involved in a theatre project supported by the Office of the London Mayor. He thought little more about the prospect of acting again until he learned about Shivilenco when he began working with Colin Hives.
At this point, it might be easier to write, "See also Dave Cook", because the two share so many characteristics. Another reluctant line-learner, Phil has the ability to turn in natural performances, usually with a degree of improvisation - often out of necessity more than anything else! His throwaway extra lines are almost too good, because they usually reduce the rest of the cast to laughter at inappropriate moments.
Interestingly, Phil will be working alongside Dave Cook when the former appears as the titular Jimmy Wilde later this year.
