Filmography

2002 is now generally acknowledged as year zero for Shivilenco Pictures and, as such, is the starting point for our filmography.   Below is a warts-and-all look at the films that Shivilenco has produced over the last six years;  we are not above a bit of self-criticism - get in there before someone else does, that's our motto!

If you are tempted by any of the synopses below, most of our films (i.e. the ones we still like) are available on DVD for nominal postage and packing costs.   Just e-mail us: production@shivilencopictures.co.uk.

Jimmy Wilde     September 2009     Duration:  90 mins
Shivilenco's debut feature-length production, Jimmy Wilde is a story of.....well, now that would spoil things, wouldn't it?   What we can say is that when a disenchanted reporter and his laid-back cameraman happen across Jimmy Wilde, they are presented with the opportunity of a career-making scoop. We follow their unintentionally humerous attempts at producing a documentary on their elusive subject, but will circumstances conspire to prevent them telling a story that the world needs to hear?   Possibly the only film ever to feature story arcs involving mambo and Nazis.   Includes cameos from 'Allo 'Allo's Sam Kelly, former The Bill and Brass star, Shaun Scott and television and stage veteran, Liz Crowther.

Now and Forever     June 2008     Duration:  2.5 mins
Chilling made-for-competition short, in which the reason a woman cannot escape the confines of her house soon becomes all too apparent.

Clock Ed     June 2008     Duration:  2.5 mins
Comedy sister piece to Now and Forever.   A lazy man discovers he has the ability to control time - to what use will he put his new found talent?

Scope Noir     August 2007     Duration:  10 mins
The tale of a man with an unhealthy obsession with film.   There is being absorbed by a film and then being absorbed into a film.    Should serve as a salutary tale for Shivilenco's own film encyclopedia, Colin Hives.   You have to be well versed in cinematic history to follow the plot in this one.

Murder Consumed     September 2005     Duration:  1 min
Made-for-competition super short about a wife killer, a car breakdown and a cannibal - all in sixty seconds!

Getting Away With It/Don't Get Caught     September 2005     Duration:  5mins/1 min
Spoof of the brilliantly scary public information films of the 1970s and 1980s, written by enthusiast of the genre [yes, they do exist], Paul Faulkner.   Forget avoiding rabies and what to do in the event of a gas leak, how about disposing of a body?   Two versions were made, the one minute edit intended for a BBC competition, for which we received a "special mention."   Now, we are normally quite a modest bunch, but the fact is that our effort knocked spots off those which finished in the top five.   Subject matter a bit close to the bone, eh, Auntie?   Driving backwards, indeed.

Out For The Count     July 2005     Duration:  10 mins
Comic vampire film pastiche which polarises opinion in the Shivilenco camp.

All's Well That Ends     February 2005     Duration:  40 mins
A hard-nosed, uncaring reporter enjoys a big win on the lottery, just hours before learning of the very real possibility of the imminent end of the world.   When presented with a second chance at life, will he change his ways?   A solid story, well told - but the general consensus is that certain scenes could have been relieved of a few minutes to bring this back down to the half hour mark.

Obsessive     August 2004     Duration:  15mins
The moving and, as it turned out, haunting tale of a couple who yearned for each other, but never found the courage to reveal their true feelings.   The only love story in the Shivilenco back catalogue (albeit an unconventional one), but still capped off with one of Colin's customary twists in the final sixty seconds.

Souled Down The River     February 2004     Duration:  15 mins
God and the devil engage in a quick game of poker.   Biblical references abound, but, unsurprisngly, all is not as it seems.   One of Shivilenco's favourite comedies.

Blind Trust     January 2004     Duration:  10 mins
A recovering kleptomainac goes for a job as a personal assistant to a blind man.   What happens next is not as predictable as you might expect, in what is often commented on as being a rather sad story.

A Briefcase Study 2     May 2004    Duration:  10 mins
Wouldn't it be a great idea to film a sequal to A Briefcase Study on the twelve month anniversary of the original?   No, as it happens.   It turns out that the premise of three stories, two men and one breifcase cannot sustain a sequal, even when you add two more men.   Nobody really knows why this doesn't work - but it doesn't.   Shivilenco's only sequal to date - enough said.

The Waiting Game     April 2004     Duration:  30 mins
A gang of bank robbers have a perceived weak link in their midst - but when they double cross him, he turns out to be stronger and more cunning than any of them imagined.   A classic Shivilenco ensemble romp.

Antenna     December 2003     Duration:  5 mins
A throwaway short - thankfully!   Two rather stilted characters appear to be caught up in some kind of nuclear holocaust, but, for a reason which soon becomes apparent, both are devoid of any emotion.   "What is going on?" one of the pair asks.   Quite.

Red Handed     November 2003     Duration:  10 mins
What are the chances of two burglars breaking into the same house at the same time - and what would happen if they did?   In this instance, hilarity ensues in what is still a fondly remembered Shivilenco escapade.

Final Act     November 2003     Duration:  25 mins
To this day, Final Act remains a benchmark for all Shivilenco projects.   A darkly disturbing story of an out-of-work actor who is tipped over the edge when an audition fails to go his way. Reached the penultimate stage of the 2004 Bradford Film Festival and achieved a glowing review on the Film Threat website, which hailed Colin as "a very clever director who knows exactly where he is leading the viewer" (Film Threat, December 2003).

Hit and Miss     August 2003    Duration:  30 mins
An unlikely hitman is hired to carry out a contract on his own brother.   His conscience kicks in -that is until he realises he is being blackmailed.   Twists galore follow, not to mention a glorious 'stunt' which a low budget film company has no right to be able to execute - the wonders of digital editing, eh?

The Men Who Knew Everything     August 2003     Duration: 10 mins
Two competitive quiz enthusiasts go head-to-head in a bid to outwit the other.   Full of facts.   That's facts.

Strobe     July 2003     Duration:  15 mins
Time travelling escapades from the wackier recesses of Colin's mind.   Beautifully filmed at a sun-drenched beach location (where would Shivilenco be without Formby?), but the entire company turned against this as soon as it premiered.   With Colin in a minority of one, he was unable to pursue the story in any sequals - something  which the original presupposed, thereby making this a more abstruse exercise than it already was!

Roadwork     June 2003     Duration:  5 mins
A jogger suspects something nefarious is going on at the side of the road and decides to follow his nose - then wishes he hadn't.

Housebound     May 2003     Duration:  15 mins
A door-to-door salesman picks the wrong house and finds himself framed for an entire family's murder in this menacing story.

A Briefcase Study     May 2003     Duration:  10 mins
Three stories, two men, one briefcase.   Quirky simplicity.

Headache     September 2002     Duration:  5 mins
Slapstick comedy about a man who refuses to go to the dentist, instead opting to enlist the help of his unwitting friend - with horrendous results.   Unexpectedly, Headache was given a late night airing on Channel Four and S4C in November 2003 - a real coup at the time, but if we could now select from our back catalogue a film to be given national exposure, it probably would not be this!

Dead Giveaway     August 2002     Duration:  25 mins
An ambitious radio competition goes badly awry.   On reflection, rather prolix.   The final Shivilenco film to be edited on VHS.
